TikTok and PUBG Mobile are the highest-earning applications on both the App Store and Google Play Store in the third quarter of 2021, according to Sensor Tower’s most recent data. While TikTok was the most popular app on the planet, PUBG was the most popular game. According to reports, both apps have received the highest downloads in their respective categories.

Consumer spending on the TikTok app surged by 41% year over year (YoY), according to the data. In China, Sensor Tower’s TikTok revenue includes Douyin on iOS. Consumer spending on PUBG Mobile climbed by 11% year on year in the third quarter, according to reports.

Total consumer spending on in-app purchases, premium apps, and subscriptions grew 15.1 percent year over year to $33.6 billion across Apple’s App Store and Google Play, according to Sensor Tower’s latest data on app sales in Q3 2021. Google Play was the primary reason behind the rise, with consumer spending jumping 18.6% to $12.1 billion years over year. Consumer spending on the App Store, on the other hand, grew by 13.2 percent year over year to $21.5 billion.

TikTok was the highest-earning app overall in Q3 according to Sensor Tower statistics. Overall, Manga reader Piccoma finished in second, with revenue increasing 130 percent year over year, while YouTube came in third, with consumer spending up 17 percent. Google One and Disney+ rounded out the top-earning applications at number four and five, respectively. Google One was the highest-earning app on Google Play, despite TikTok being the highest-grossing app overall and on the App Store.

According to Sensor Tower, TikTok was also the most downloaded app worldwide in Q3 2021, followed by Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger. TikTok just exceeded 3 billion worldwide installations, making it the first non-Facebook app to do so.

According to Sensor Tower, consumer expenditure on mobile games has continued to increase, with PUBG Mobile (including the Chinese localization Game for Peace) claiming the top spot. In the third quarter, consumer spending on PUBG Mobile allegedly grew by 11% year over year. Tencent’s Honor of Kings and miHoYo’s big hit Genshin Impact followed PUBG Mobile in the top-grossing games for Q3 2021. Niantic’s Pokémon Go and Roblox Corp’s Roblox rounded out the top five, with Pokémon Go experiencing an 8% YoY decline in consumer expenditure and Roblox seeing a 9% increase in Q3 2020, according to Sensor Tower.

According to the study, first-time installations of mobile games fell 3.5 percent year over year, from 14.1 billion in Q3 2020 to 13.6 billion in Q3 2020 across both platforms. PUBG Mobile received the most downloads, despite being the most popular mobile game worldwide, and was followed by Outfit7’s freshly launched My Talking Angela 2. The top five most-installed games globally were Sybo Games’ Subway Surfers, Tap2Play’s Count Masters, and Garena’s battle royale game Garena Free Fire.
